Basketball during the winter in Hartford has been a long-standing tradition that has been very successful over its many years of existence. Throughout that very successful past, scores of young athletes have created and developed their skills on the courts throughout the area, all while having fun and creating memories with their classmates and friends. These young athletes play organized youth Basketball seeking victories against their opponents on the court, but more importantly, these youth athletes have been taught by coaches and volunteers about those cherished aspects of life they can use on, and off, the court – skills like kindness, integrity and sportsmanship.
After many years of leadership by the High School Basketball program, the Hartford Council for Recreation agreed in the spring of 2020 to bring the sport into its portfolio of successful youth sports. Our organization is honored and incredibly excited to get started and our goal is to use our expertise to continue to expand on the proud history this sport has achieved in the past. By taking over the program now, we can ensure that Basketball will be able to prosper and thrive for years to come.
After all, our other programs have utilized proper instructional skills and strong coaching to develop and teach the next generation of players you will see on the Middle School and High School levels in the years to come – and this will be no different. This season promises to feature another action-packed year full of made shots, assists and hard-nosed defense, and we want the youth of Hartford to be a part of this endeavor with us. So, if you have a child that is eager to participate in a sport during the winter and is interested in physical activity, look no further than our Basketball programs!
