Football

Football in the fall in Hartford has become a much beloved tradition over the years that features big hits and scoring plays, but which also continues to grow and prosper every year. Throughout its storied history, scores of young athletes have crafted their football-playing skills using the flag football, junior rocket football and senior rocket football programs that the Hartford Council for Recreation put in place all those years ago, with the youth of our community in mind. The teams that we put on the field every weekend during the season compete with teams from other communities attempting to win games, but players are also taught even more important lessons at the end of the day, like dedication, hard work and the ultimate goal at the end of the day, playing with integrity and sportsmanship, despite the result on the scoreboard.

When you join our programs, please know that the athlete in your family will always be in good hands. In addition to the fun that each participant is sure to have, our young athletes receive valuable knowledge about the sport from coaches and volunteers, who enjoy coaching our youth, and working with their players to make them better athletes on the field, and more importantly, better citizens in their communities off the field. In the end, players are encouraged to just give it their best effort, because that is what youth sports should always be about.

This season promises to be another action-packed year full of educational athletics, filled with great excitement and fun for all our great Hartford families. With everything we mentioned above in mind, what are some more reasons to join our football programs? Players get the opportunity to compete against neighboring communities, while forging friendly rivalries of their own. In addition, our players get to play their home games on the same field that their older idols play on under those ‘Friday Night Lights’ during the fall. This creates a unique opportunity to experience a small taste of playing on the ‘big stage.’ We invite everyone to join us at the football field this year, and if you have a child that is interested in a highly physical activity, look no further than our football programs.

Current Season Information

The 2022 football season is officially underway as we update this statement! Signups have taken place, players have been sorted into their respective teams (by grade level), and coaches and directors are reaching out to schedule their first official practices. Practices for all three levels will begin the week of Monday, August 8th, with the regular season scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 10th and finishing on Saturday, October 22nd. This equates to all our football teams playing a seven-game schedule this season, in addition to having a preseason scrimmage prior to the start of the regular season in late-August. A full game schedule has been finalized and released and interested parties may find the schedule for the 2022 season on the ‘Events’ page of our website.

All of us with the Hartford Council for Recreation are looking forward to an exciting and safe 2022 football season. With many old and new faces participating in football this year, we even have enough players to create two flag football teams! We are certainly very grateful for the continued support we receive throughout the community for our youth sport initiatives. We look forward to seeing everyone around the football field this year!
